History David Malik

In the 1950’s David Malik established his lighting business dedicated to the production and restoration of chandeliers. From the showroom at 112 Kensington Church Street, London W8, his work soon gained a reputation for superlative craftsmanship which generated commissions from around the world.

When Swarovski launched their chandelier crystal components in 1965, David Malik was the first person in this country to use Swarovski crystal in his production and, with his elegant and innovative designs, became one of the most exclusive crystal chandelier manufacturers in the United Kingdom.

David's wife Phyllis was also a great support to him, working in the administrative side of the business, she also perfected the art of traditional pinning of crystal in the English style of hook and loop.

A new venture in manufacturing beckoned when David Malik co-founded Starlite Chandeliers Ltd in December 1973. Acquiring Manus Art Metals Ltd and so continuing to produce cast brass chandeliers and wall lights, and adding new lines, designed by David Malik, mostly dressed with Bohemian and Swarovski crystal, Based firstly in Croydon and then moving to Sunbury-upon-Thames, Starlite became one of the major light fitting manufacturers in the country, supplying palaces and residences at home and abroad.
